The eagle soared proudly over Vlorë on November 28, 1912, during the historic Assembly of Vlorë. On this day, Albanian leaders and intellectuals from across the Albanian lands—led by Ismail Qemali—gathered to declare Albania’s independence from the Ottoman Empire.
Recognizing the urgency of the moment, the congress convened as a direct response to the growing threat of partition by foreign powers and the weakening authority of the Ottoman Empire over Albanian territories. The declaration of independence was unanimously accepted and signed by forty delegates, marking one of the most significant moments in Albanian history.
